Presentation: Spatial point patterns: Theory and practice
When: Oct. 24, 2014, 12:00-13:00
Where: Zilverling 2042
Who: Marie-Collette van Lieshout
Forest data on the location of trees, a sample of cells under a microscope, an object scene to be interpreted by computer vision experts, interacting particles of interest to physicists and a sketch of line segments representing geological faults all share a particular
trait: they are presented in the form of a map of geometric objects scattered over some region.
In this talk I will give an informal introduction to the mathematical theory of point processes which underpins data of the kind mentioned above, discuss features such as inhomogeneity and interaction and present some modelling strategies.
